As labor approaches you may experience any of the following:
- a thick mucous discharge
- a bloody show (thinner mucus that is streaked with blood)
- flu-like symptoms (nausea or diarrhea, fatigue, aching)
- a burst of energy
The surest sign of labor is regular contractions at three to five minute intervals. If your membranes rupture (a gush or trickle of fluid from your vagina) or you experience vaginal bleeding that is bright and red, call the office right away. If you think you are in labor, do not eat. You may continue to drink clear liquids like water or fruit juice.
